Student Absences

Student attendance is crucial to academic success. When a student must miss class for any reason, please follow the procedure outlined below.

• To verify reason for absence on the day the absence occurs
    • To secure permission for your child to leave campus for a necessary appointment

All absences should be cleared within a two week period from the date the absence occurred. We can only clear absences up to 4 weeks after the date of the absence. For example: The absolute last day to clear an absence for September 3rd would be October 1st. If a student is absent for 3 or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note will be required for clearance.
An automatic dialer will call your home in the event your child is marked absent in one or more classes that day. If you have already called in for that particular absence, please disregard the phone message. If you are unaware of the absence, please call the school and ask to speak to Ms. Herrera. Charter Alternatives wishes to keep you informed of your student’s absences. In addition to the automatic dialer, a letter is sent home when the 10th, 15th and 20th absence is reached in any class.

Teachers may indicate that absences or tardiness are affecting grade in class on grade reports and progress reports.
