RECONNECTING YOUTH - MRS. NERI & MRS RAMOS

The pictures are from our Family and Friends Get Together.  We wanted to bring our Reconnecting Youth (RY) students and their families and friends together to celebrate what our RY students had achieved this year in  RY class.  We wanted to emphasize the positive growth our students had made and share it with their loved ones.
Mrs. Ramos and Mrs. Neri focused on the goals we had been working on throughout the year.  Our goals were to improve school performance, drug and alcohol control, and mood improvement.  Students were praised and  encouraged to continue  to use the advice/tips that they learned in the RY program with us.
Mrs. Ramos and Mrs. Neri also fixed breakfast for the RY students as a way to thank them for having been such great students and as an end of the year celebration for all of them.

MR. KING'S  BIOLOGY CLASSES

Students in Mr. King's Biology classes were working on the concepts of natural selection and adaptations.  Mr. King sprinkled a variety of beans on the ground for students to find.  They had to find the beans and collect the beans using numerous types of equipment such as tweezers, popscicle sticks, spoons, and fingers.  Once the beans were collected, students sorted them to discover which beans were the easiest to find and which utensil gathered the most beans.

MR. WULF'S CIVICS CLASSES

ImageImageMr. Wulf's Civic classes conducted a survey of the entire school the day before the presidential election.  The votes of students and teachers represented the popular vote.  In order to reflect the Electoral College votes, classrooms represented states.  Staff and students voted for the president and several propositions on the state ballot.  Sequoia High School's vote was an overwhelming majority for Barrack Obama.

MR. KING'S  BIOLOGY CLASSES

On Halloween, Mr. King demonstrated the properties of dry ice along with discussing carbon dioxide and hydrogen.  He showed the movement of air by first asking Daisy and Christine (the bumblebees) to try to blow various types of cups off their heads.  Later Mr. King used a large trash can as a cannon and tried to shoot paper cups off students heads.  Look closely at the photos and you'll see the cup flying off one student's head.

MR. KING'S  BIOLOGY CLASSES

Mr. King's students were given a card designating a cell part.  Using booklets they had created, they were instructed to draw that part within the cell structure.  Students had to work in cooperation with each other in order to accurately reproduce the cell structure.     Once the entire cell structure was complete, students had to determine whether that cell was an animal cell or a plant cell and explain how they came to that conclusion.
