Picture Toolbar

After choosing a piece of clipart from the many categories, you can "right click" on it and choose  insert to place the graphic into your PowerPoint slide.  Sometimes, left clicking of a piece of clipart will  provide you with with the same options.

Pictures from the Internet

Additional pictures and graphics can also be downloaded from the Microsoft Internet clip art site by clicking the "Clips Online" option on the top of the clip art window.

Pictures can also be copied  from web pages.  Right clicking on a picture on the Internet, will give you the option "save picture."  By clicking this choice, you can save the picture on your computer in a location of your choice.  You can then use Insert > Picture >From File on your PowerPoint toolbar to place that picture in a slide.

When you choose to insert a picture from a file, who will have to navigate to where you saved it on your computer.


Picture Toolbar 

Before you can go on to editing pictures, be sure the "Picture" Tool Bar is turned on--View > Toolbars > Picture.


The toolbar, might already be part of the PowerPoint toolbar.  If it appears as a floating toolbar, you can hold on the red "title bar" with the mouse arrow and left button held down move it.
 


Dragging the floating picture toolbar up to the standard toolbar and releasing the left mouse button will integrate the picture tools with the other tools.


Once a picture is selected, you can begin to edit it with the use of the Picture Toolbar.
  • Contrast --
    You can increase or decrease the contrast of color in a picture, for example to sharpen a picture by using the up and down arrows.
  • Brightness--
    On the Pictures toolbar, click the up arrow (More Brightness) to increase the brightness of the picture. Click down arrow (Less Brightness) to decrease the brightness.
  • Cropping a picture-- you can remove areas of the picture that you don't want to use. Cropping also lets you change the proportions of the picture; for instance, you can crop a picture to be more narrow.
    1. Click Crop  on the Pictures toolbar--A pair of scissors appears in place of the mouse arrow.
    2. By clicking and dragging the handles on the box, resize the box to include the part of the picture that you want to keep.
  • Make a color in a picture transparent

    You can select one color in a picture to be transparent, and then wherever that color appears, the background will show through. Pictures can have only one transparent color. If you select a transparent color for a picture that already has one specified, the original transparent color will no longer be transparent.

    1. Select the picture you want to create transparent areas in.
    2. On the Picture toolbar, click Set Transparent Color (pen tool)
    3. Click the color you want to make transparent.
