Statement Sentences 
 
Statement sentences are also called telling sentences.  Statements have a naming part and a telling part.  Statement sentences end with a period.
     The dog ran across the yard for the ball.
 
Question Sentences
 
Question sentences ask a question.  They are sometimes called asking sentences.  Question sentences end with a question mark.
     Where did I put my backpack?
 
Command Sentences
 
Command sentences tell someone to do something.  Command sentences end in a period.
     Put your name on your paper.
 
Exclamation Sentences
 
Exclamation sentences show surprise, anger, fear, or excitement.  Exclamation sentences end in an exclamation point.
     Hooray! We won the game!
